Winning with Team Africa Le Mans
A welcome phone call from Dr. Greg Mills asking me to return to Team Africa Le Mans to compete in 3 Hours of Killarney in Cape Town, South Africa along side fellow Brit, BTCC and Le Mans star driver, Goodwood House Captain, Anthony Reid.
After the previous years mechanical issues and retirement from 9 Hours of Killarney final round of South African Endurance Series, we had unfinished business.
Driving the teams Ginetta GT4 it was always going to be a stretch keeping up with the GT3 and sports cars. But after some testing and development on Thursday and Friday I was able to put in a lap in qualifying to score pole position.
Anthony started the race and lead. Suffering a rear blow out an hour in, spinning and clipping the wall causing some minor damage, he pitted. We opted to brim the tank, fresh tyres, swap me in and go for it. We were down in 4th place and a lap down so it was a case of turning it on to catch up. I was able to gain the lap back and get back into the lead where we remained until the finish.
The car was excellent and lasted the distance while pushing hard to gain back lost time. Thanks to Greg Mills and the Team for the invitation. I look forward to working with you again!
